Junior Triathlon Club

The Junior Triathlon Club is divided into two training squads:

Junior Squad (ages 7 to 11)
The Junior Squad meets each week in school term time at Hampden Street school. The group meets at 6.30pm and it costs $3 per session ($2 for Hampden St children) it is also possible to pay for the whole term. Children should bring with them swimming togs, bikes (mountain bike) and running shoes.

In addition to the weekly sessions the club also holds races for younger athletes throughout the summer. The next sessions start at 6.30 pm at Hampden Street school on 2 February 2010 and runs through to 14 March (may be a bit later).

Youth Squad (ages 12 to 18)
The Youth Squad meets each month for two hours. The sessions move around depending on the time of year and the up and coming events. The programme for 2010 is a as follows:

27 January - Rabbit Island - 6:00pm (bring wetsuit and race bike if have them but not essential)
24 February - Rabbit Island - 6.00pm
17 March - Rabbit Island - 6.00pm
21 April - Rabbit Island - 6.00pm
5 May - to be announced

Parents are very welcome at these sessions, bring your bikes, togs and shoes too. The sessions are completely free and we are sponsored by Nelson City Council and NZCT

The club also administers the Nelson and Tasman Regional Schools championship. Points are gained towards individual awards by athletes competing in the four race Summer Triathlon Series. Points are awarded for each of the categories under 14,16 and 19 for boys and girls for the best performances in up to three of the races. There is also an award for the top school. For 2010 there are cups to compete for donated by Nelson City Council.
