The Eyebright Mile and NZ Open Water Championships, 2020

It’s a bit of a horror story down by the beach and all along Rocks Rd, with waves crashing up over the road even two hours before high tide. The winds are predicted to increase during the day. It doesn’t seem that there are available dates for a rerun later in the season, but more news about that later.

This is the 33rd Eyebright Mile. The best times from previous years are available – click here

Fantastic news from day one (Saturday) of the NZ Open Water Swim Championships in Taupo – the Epic Swims

In the 7.5km swim, Alec Swan, Bendi Kepess and Fergus Drummond took the first three male places and Abbey Smale, Sierra Thomas and Sophie Alexander the first, third and sixth women’s places. With apologies to the many other Tasman swimmers taking part with equally wonderful personal achievements – see the Tasman swimmer results here. Full results, click here

In the Epic 10km, Terry Bone was second in M40-49 and fourth overall, Christina Harris was first in F50-59 and seventh woman overall, while Roger Matheson was 10th in M50-29, 39th overall.

Following up from that in the 2.5km, Terry was second in M40-49, 21st overall, while Christina was 3rd in F50-59 and 21st female overall.

On Sunday, even more more swim results, with Terry and Christina completing the Epic Epic – 10km, 5km and 2.5km – and younger swimmers taking home brilliant results over all distances and in the 4 x 1km relays. Check the links above for all the results.
