Port Nelson Sea Swims, Race Five, December 17, 2020

Another perfect night, apart from the low tide making it awkward getting in and out. With Alec Swan, Oxford Bayley, Nic Hall and Abbey Smale off on a national long distance camp, the race was wide open.

Last year’s series winner Luke Kelly was on the start line for the first time this summer and Hayden Squance is always right on the pace. Isabella Thurlow keeps a low profile and although she says she’s a pool specialist, she has huge potential in open water.

From the start, Hayden and Luke were side by side with Terry Bone  and Isabella tucked in behind.

Hayden got an edge after the first turn at the dolphin and they stayed that way to the finish, with Luke in second, Terry third and Isabella right behind.

As a footnote, the four swimmers at the long distance camp raced off Kohimarama:
