April newsletter
If you're getting this newsletter, it's because you're a club member, have been associated with a club activity over the past few months or maybe you've entered one or more of the races in our next series, the Shoe Clinic Mountainbike Duathlon Series.
The series starts in two weeks, on Sunday April 26. After that, there's a race every fortnight through to May 24. Entries are coming in at a faster rate than last year, so we can expect numbers in the first race to be in the region of 120-150.
If you haven't entered yet, check out the race details and enter online here. We'd rather you paid by credit card, but there's a facility to tick a box and pay on race day. Either way, we'd far prefer to have your details in advance to speed things up on race day (and save you the late entry fee)
A bunch of tri club committee members have made four trips out to Rabbit Island and the course is now marked out, with a few more arrows to go in tomorrow (Easter Sunday). You're welcome to go and try it out during weekends.
The course has plenty of interesting bits in the forest, including a short section of the bike course where you'll have to push your bike uphill.
There's some pine-needled tracks.
Some grass and some gravel.
To make it simple, the run course is marked with red arrows, the bike course with yellow.
Here's one.
Signs will sometimes be on little stakes, sometimes on trees or in other places.
Sometimes you'll have to decide which way to go.
Sometimes you'll have to make decisions. The course this year has a 2km course for the walkers and runners in the short event and a 3km course for runners in the long event. This photo illustrates where the two courses part company.
Sometimes you'll just have to look for coloured rope or ribbon on trees, yellow for the bike and orange for the run/walk.
We'll be doing the final course measurement tomorrow, but the approximate distances are:
Short race: 2km run or walk, 8km bike, 2km run or walk
Long race: 3km run, 16km bike, 3km run
Just as last year's course slightly favoured cyclists, this year the balance may be slightly towards the runners.
It's time to enter. Check out the entry pages, which give details of the prizes and other information.
You can access the entry pages through the tri club website here or go direct to the entry site here.
