Shoe Clinic Mountainbike Duathlon Series

Long race

Short race

 Tom Filmer

Race two - a lucky escape from the promised rain - turned out very nice. Tested the new barbecue and devoured a record number of pieces of hoki (thanks Sealord). Story in progress, but for now, here's the results - let us know if you spot any errors -

Story on Sportzhub

Sunny skies and a record attendance for race one. There were 177 competitors in the Shoe Clinic event and 78 in the Sports Therapy Kidz race - a total of 255 people taking part  and a huge number of helpers, especially on the kids course. Almost everyone was happy with their race and looking forward to going even faster next time. Draft results, click here

Shoe Clinic Mountainbike Duathlon Series, 2012

Planning is well under way for this series, April 29, May 13, May 27. The bike course has been marked with yellow arrows. We hope to mark the run course at Easter. A feature this year will be the parallel Sports Therapy KIDZ Series for 5-12-year-olds, raced entirely on the TDC mountainbike circuit at Conifer Park, Rabbit Island. Details are available on the race website, which is now open for entries, click here

Summer Sprint Race Four, February 19

Despite the busy programme over the past few weeks a good-sized field of 62 turned out for the various race options. Rachel Klamer showed the sort of form that's had her challenging the top Kiwi triathletes in recent weeks and will take her to the Olympics later this year. Rachel was followed home by fellow Dutch triathlete Maaike Caelers. If you spot anything dodgy in the results, please email. Preliminary results, click here

The first race of the newly formed kidz group attracted 24 triathletes of the future.

Summer Sprint Race Three, January 29

With parts of Rabbit Island still out of commission it was a challenge to plan a new course on race day. The new transition area worked better than the old on for both spectators and competitors, close to the beach and with good visibility all round. The bike course was a couple of kilometres too long, but we can adjust that prior to race four on February 19. Results, click here

Wanaka, January 20-21

Britta Martin - Photo: Marc Palmano, Shuttersport.co.nz

It was a big weekend for Nelson with around 50 people taking part in either the Tri NZ Contact race on the Friday night, or either the Ironman-distance Challenge Wanaka or the Lake Wanaka Half on Saturday. Brilliant race by Britta Martin, whose bike ride nearly set her up for a win in the long race. Unheralded in pre-race hype, Britta came through for second in the pro field. Other top results, Carol Cooper's second in F40-49 in the long race, and in the half, Eileen Searle's win in F50-54, Robin Reid's second in M35-39 (5th overall), Susie Wood's second in F35-39 and Mandy Stephens' second in F40-44.

Marc Palmano from Shuttersport was there and as soon as he gets back to Nelson will put photos online at www.shuttersport.co.nz
